First things first, Yes it's still me. I've just given my blog a facelift. I found the Scrappin' Blogs site and thought to myself "Self, I think it is time your blog had a fun new look". So that's what I did. It hasn't quite grown on me yet but I'm sure it will cause it has some serious blog bling.

A new Stampin' Up! catalogue is soon upon us and I love getting new toys to play with. However, there is one item that retired that I don't think I can live without and that would be my Creamy Caramel ink. To me, it is the perfect color for giving that distressed, worn paper look. I bought 2 of the reinker just in case. It has to be the ink I use the most.

Well, my sister and her family will be here on Sunday. I am so excited but I am going to be quite busy. I am definitely not going to be able to post to my blog everyday. I will still be posting cards, when I have time to make them, though.

I tried my hand at making the hydrangea in this stamp set Pink. My card on Monday used 2 two colors on the flowers, this one uses three colors. I really like the depth it gives. I didn't cut this one out so I created a shadow around the image. To do this, I used my blender pen and my Going Gray ink pad to trace an outline around the flower.

For Try It Thursday I figured I would try to putting some lacing on my card. I figured I'd start simple and do it sneaker style (no sure if that's really a style, lol) but I might make another one where I kinda rip a V shape in my paper, distress it and put this lacing in it to look like a corset. We'll see if I have time for that.

I had to whip out my tool kit for this card cause the first row of eyelets was too far into the cardstock for my crop-a-dile to reach. I forgot how much of a pain in the butt eyelets were before I got my beloved Crop-a-dile. I mentioned yesterday that I stamp when my little boy naps. Have you ever tried to hammer quietly? Take it from me, it does work!!! I ended up in my back yard. LMBO.

Sorry for not posting yesterday. Things have been crazy busy. What with Father's Day and my computer issues. Then my little guy decided he didn't need a nap yesterday afternoon and I usually power stamp while he sleeps. Ahh.... summer is coming.

For this card, although the camera didn't pick it up very well, I made score lines on three sides of the Whisper White cardstock and wheelied in between those score lines. I used the brads to cover over the areas where the wheeled image overlapped. The butterfly is a perfect example for why you shouldn't throw anything out. I colored and cut out this butterfly about a month ago but decided to use a different color on that card. Well, I needed an embelly for this card and this butterfly caught my eye. :) Waste not, want not I guess.

I am having some serious Microsoft Word issues today. I typed up the tutorial for this card and now everytime I try and open or upload it, I get an error message. So I decided to post the card and details and I will post the tutorial once I have the bugs worked out, or give up and retype it. (whichever comes first)

So Purple Rain was the first song that started to play when I turned on my IPod when I made this card. Can you tell? lol I hadn't planned on cutting out this hydrangea image (which btw was a serious pain in the butt) but I made way too many boo-boos outside the lines. I think it worked out OK in the end, though. Well, I'm off to try and salvage my tutorial. Hopefully, I'll be back later today.

I made this card to go with a gift I have for a friend. The gift is a book is I thought this card would go really nice with it. I think I'll make a matching bookmark to go inside the card from two Tags die before I give it away, though.

So last night I started the big purge of my craft room. Trying to get everything ready for the new Color Renovation. Man, it is a lot of work. Usually it only takes about a couple of hours for me to get my things straightened away when a new catalogue comes out. Not this year. It looks like it might drag into days before I am squared away. This set of cards uses some brand spanking new products from Stampin' Up! that will be available in the new catalogue coming out July 1. Did you notice the 1/8" ribbon? You should feel it. I've always shied away from skinny ribbon just cause it's usually so flimsy. Let me tell ya, this ribbon is nice and stiff and can hold it's own. Did you know the sentiment? It's also new from the Level III hostess called Occasional Quotes. So ladies, pull together everyone you know cause you're definitely going to want to host a workshop and hit that Level III benefits mark. There are some awesome sayings in this set. And last but not least, did you notice the new colors? Early Expresso and Daffodil Delight are 2 of the new core colors that Stampin' Up! is introducing in July. I gotta say, I'm really loving the Early Expresso.

I accidently made this card. Weird, I know. I was running a piece of Creamy Caramel Cardstock through the Big Shot and a small piece of cardstock was stuck to the bottom. When it came out there was a raised area and I thought it looked a lot like a Band Aid. Some I redid it with a little more cardstock underneath and a little more centered and Voila, this card came to life.

I guess there really isn't anything super Fabulous about this card. Not a lot of layers, no super fancy techniques or crazy embellishments. But....I really love this card. If you can't tell, I've kinda been on a monochromatic kick as of late. This card uses all shades of gray. I colored the images with my markers and used sponge daubers and ink pads to color the Presto Patterns DSP. I embossed to sentiment cause it was looking a little fuzzy on the DSP. Lucky for me, the classic ink stay wet for a little longer on this paper and I didn't have to start over again.

Well, I am off to read Breaking Dawn from the Twilight Series........AGAIN. I got pre-sale tickets for me and my friend, Mandy, last week (I'm so excited I could scream) and started reading Eclipse this week. Well, I finished it yesterday and I can't resist reading the last one. The book is calling me, can't you hear it? LMBO Anyway, have a great weekend everyone.

Oppsie, I almost forgot. I got so wrapped up in Bella and Edward yesterday that I forgot to pick a winner for Take it Tuesday. So the winner is...................Da - Da - DA

When I went to my craft room to make this card, I had the urge to use green. Once the card was finished, though, I didn't like it too much. I felt like the color needed to look more rustic so I redid it in the colors above. Here is the green one just in case you wanted to see it.

I like the rustic-y one better. Try it Thursday is using the negative image of a punch. For this card I punched the star image on Whisper White, then used the scallop square punch to out the star. After that, used a blender pen and Going Gray ink to trace around the star to make it pop and then popped it up on dimensionals.

Last week I decided that I was smarter than the sewing machine. Well, my sewing machine had different ideas. After struggling with thread breaking, the bobbin, rethreading the machine and tension I finally thought I had concurred the beast. Just take a closer look at the image below. Do you see all the little foot markers on the left side of the stitch line? I think the wrong foot is on there. I'm just going to wait until my mother-in-law comes next month to fix it cause this silly machine is about 2 seconds from being thrown out on the back lawn and buried. lol

So, on to my card today. It's a little dark, not sure why.

I really wanted to have stitching on my card so I sat down and pierced all those holes, then used my Signo gel pen to make faux stitching. Pretty sad that I had to resort to that but alas, the sewing machine is smarter than me. I was looking at the new builder wheel and they were the perfect size for the medium size twill tape so I wheelied on it to create my greeting.

*Sigh* Will I ever win the battle of the sewing machine?

So, my ode to Prince is because that song has been stuck in my head all day. So much so that I had to download it to my IPod and listen to it 15 times in a row. So I guess this card was inspired by the amazingly talented and slightly crazy Prince (or should I say Artist formerly known as Prince).

Anyhoo, today is my birthday (yay, Happy Birthday to me). I actually had to think about how old I was. I had to do that math. Crazy isn't it? Not like when I was younger and I knew I was turning 18 or I knew I was turning 21. I guess there are no more milestones so the number isn't all that important anymore. We are going out for supper tonight to celebrate, then on Saturday I'm goin' shoppin'. Wish me luck cause the West Edmonton Mall is insane busy on the weekends but I will have all day to myself. My boys are going to have a Boys' Day.

Ok, look out world, I have officially opened my jar of Dazzling Diamonds again. I am a glitter fanatic (must be the magpie in me). It's Fabulous Friday!!! Here is my last Father's Day card. OMG!!! Do I ever love this stamp set. This image is big enough that it holds its' own on a square layout plus, I love to color so this one is perfect for that. I colored this time with a combination of markers and blender pen & ink. I might try some watercoloring with it next.

A friend of mine (Hi Nadine - waving franticly) needed someone to watch her little girl, who is the same age as my Cole, last night. So Cole had a friend to play with. I wanted to send her home with something so I had them color the Build-a-bear images and then made these cute little baskets.

I've made this baskets before but got the inspiration to make these from Stamp TV the other week. I colored one myself and the other 2 were colored by the munchkins. I also put a bookmark in there. I know they are a little young, but I know I sometimes need a bookmark to remember where we are in a book and they are just too cute!!!

So for Try It Thursday, why don't you make a basket. They are super cute and people love little gifts. I'll bet you make someone's day. :)

I'm still not feeling 100%. It's been 5 days now so I'm wondering if I have a stomach bug or if my ulcer is acting up again. Yes, I was a worry wort in Grade 9 (I know, was I a geek or what?) and gave myself an ulcer. Anywho, creative juices don't seem to flow as freely as stomach juices lately. Ok, one more card with the Razzleberry Lemonade DSP. This time, I stopped by Patty Bennett's Blog (Thanks Patty, You Rock!!!) for her double embossing technique. I really liked how it turned out. Using the gold embossing powder gets it a little somethin' extra. Oh, and I figured out something else to do with the DSP, stamp on it. I stamped my butterfly on DSP and cut it out. I've officially used half of the pack of paper in a week. Woohooo, I never thought I'd say that.

This is the birthday invitations I made for my little boy's friend, Leah. She will be 2 in a few weeks. We went camping with Leah's family this past weekend. You should have seen to two of them. They were laying on the bed watching Franklin and Cole leans over and gives Leah a kiss and half the time they were together, they were holding hands. They are starting young. lol Ahhhh...soon enough they will think the other has cooties. The picture below shows the insert for the party info.
So, for Try It Thursday, let's give a pocket fold card a try. It is easy peasy to make. Just cut your cardstock to 4 1/4" x 11" and score at 1 1/2" and 5 1/2". Fold, tape and decorate. And look, I managed to use up 2 sheets of the Razzleberry Lemonade DSP and the card doesn't look too bad.

Are these little owls just the cutest? This is #3 of the 4 Father's Day cards I need. This only will probably be from Cole cause I think it's little boy cute. (I know, I'm a dork)

To cover the chipboard I just traces the outline of my owl onto the wrong side of my DSP and cut it out. I then used the fat end of my Tombow Adhesive to apply a thin coat to the chip and adhered the DSP. Then, I used my sanding block to sand off the excess DSP and sponged the edges with Chocolate Chip ink to give it that finished look. There are other ways to apply DSP to Chipboard but this is how get the best result.

So here is a card using the DSP I hate so much, Razzleberry Lemonade. I've come to the realization that not only do I hate it, but it sucks that creative life out of me. This is the 4th attempt at making a card with this paper and I can't stand this card either but it is better than my first 3 attempts (don't even ask). The number 1 suggestion I had to use up this paper was to give it as prizes/gifts. So here we go. It is part of my tuesday give away. I hope some of my fellow papercrafters like this paper enough to leave me a comment. On the plus side, I used up 2 full sheets coming up with this card. 2 sheets down, 10 to go. LOL

Make It Monday - Tea Light Card

I hope everyone had a great weekend. We went camping this weekend and while it didn't snow, like last year, it was raining and windy and cold. Ahhhh..... the joys of the May Long weekend. I vote to change the May Long Weekend to the last weekend in May cause the weather is always nice then. Who is with me? But all in all we had lots of fun.

Today's card / tea light is something I saw while Blog Hopping. The original, while absolutely beautiful, was in metric, not in English, and held 4 tea lights. So little ole me, sat down with my 3 tea lights and a ruler and figured out the measurements to make a 3 tea light card. And yes, it's metric and in English (hee hee) Although I might had been able to put together something in not so understandable French (it's been a while since I used it) lol. The original came from Anneth @ ScrapGalen.

Scroll to the bottom of this post where I posted a tutorial on how to make this project. This is my first attempt at making a tutorial this complicated so let me know if there is any problems with it.

For Try It Thursday, I thought I'd do a Gatefold card. They create such a pretty card and I definitely don't make them enough. And did you notice? I used Christmas DSP this time. I know, crazy girl. The snow has bearly melted, the sun is splitting the rocks and she is using Christmas paper. LMBO

Anyhoo, today I made a sympathy card but it isn't anyone in particular. I don't like making sympathy cards, especially when I know what it is for, so I try to always have a few on hand. It's easier to pick a card then to sit and make a card with a heavy heart.

I really need help to not use this stamp set. I sat down to make this card and when I opened up the case to take out the stamps, it was empty. I hadn't taken them off the block since the last time I used them. I've been waiting a long time for an image like this and now that I have it I guess I'ma gonna use it.
My favorite color rose is white. I wasn't sure how well coloring with my white gel pen was going to work cause it covers all the image but I made sure to let some of the Basic Brown ink show through and ended up with the effect I was looking for.

It's Fabulous Friday!!!

Today's card is supposed to look like a foggy day. I'm not sure if I succeeded with that effect but I thought the card looked pretty in the end. It was easy peasy to make this card. I just stamped some background trees in Perfect Plum ink (the camera didn't pick that up very well) and my main tree image in Elegant Eggplant ink. When it dried I used my sponge dauber and covered the cardstock in Whisper White ink.

Okay, I just couldn't stay away from the Elements of Style stamp set. A few years back I went to ScrapFest and one of the layouts had a picture on it that had clear microbeads glued to a picture. I remember thinking that I had to try it. Well, 2 and a half years later, here you go. I don't know if this technique has a name. If it does, please leave a comment as I would love to know. To do this technique, I stamped and colored my image and sponged the edges with Creamy Caramel ink. I then put a generous coat of Crystal Effects over the entire images, spreading it with an old paintbrush, and put it in a Powder Pal. I poured the microbeads over top and patted with my fingers to make sure the beads stuck well. To put the Rhinestone Brad on the ribbon I separated the prings and wrapped in around the bow.
I like how this image turned out but let me tell ya, what a mess. I thought Dazzling Diamonds was messing. I have these silly little beads from one end of my craft room to the other.

I normally don't post cards with images that are not Stampin' Up! on my blog but this stamp I bought this weekend when I rode on Thomas the Train. Everything else on the card is Stampin' Up!, though. I'm probably going to use this set to make Cole's birthday invitations.
Let me tell ya, I have a new appreciation for the quality of SU rubber. This stamp wasn't die cut, you know where the rubber is the same same as the wooden block. No matter how I tried to ink it up, I always got ink on the corners. So, me being me, I peeled the stamp off the wood, cut around the image and stuck it back on with Crystal Effects. I still didn't get a crisp image and had to fill in some areas with my Basic Black marker. But all in all, my little boy loves it and Toots, Toots! when he sees it. :)

I really love the NEW Travel Journal DSP from the Stampin' Up! Summer Mini Catalogue. I've had it for over a month now and I've purposely not opened the package cause I knew I would want to use this paper every time I made something. Well, I broke the seal and can't be held responsible for the amount of times I use it. I just love the Pumpkin Pie and Night of Navy combo. Oh, and the fact that Kraft cardstock (my new go-to color) coordinates with it, will not make it any easier to stay away from.

Sorry I'm a little late posting my tutorial today. I had a really busy weekend and I was just too tired to write up the blog post last night. So how was your Mother's Day? I got to ride on Thomas the Train for Mother's Day. How cool is that? My little boy loved it. He was so cute, tooting like Thomas for just about the whole ride. We also went to the zoo and the waterpark. I was just pooped by the time we got home. But we all had a blast.

I was looking through my DSP the other day wondering which one I wanted to use to make a card and I stopped at my Halloween paper and I thought "Hmmmm.........What am I going to do with this?" I know next year I will buy all new stuff and this will just sit in the package. But when I took a closer look at it I noticed that one side of the paper was not so Halloweeny and I could use it for any occasion (except for 1 sheet). So I decided why not use it up. That's when I looked at this particular patterned and thought it would make a really nice background to stamp on.

It's Fabulous Friday. I'm not sure who I'm going to give this card to but I never seem to have enough masculine cards. I know it has a bow on it but Hey, I'm a girl. What can I say?
My Tip today is about coloring images with Stampin' Up! markers. I use Shimmery White paper. It doesn't seem to pile as much as Whisper White and you can add a few layers of ink to make some areas darker than others. I colored the lighter, shadowy areas with a little ink and a blender pen.

This card has to be one my favorite that I have ever made. I just love it. When I started to make this card I had in mind to put some pearls and rhinestone brads and maybe a bow on it but as I was putting it together, I got to this point and decided to stop. I just loved the way it looked and didn't think it needed anything else.
By now you have to be thinking to yourself "Girl, step away from the Elements of Style set". I can't help it. It is such an awesome set. This is the first time I used it without making a vintage style card. And yes, that's the Presto Designer paper on the card. I swear a tear fell from my eye as I cut the 12 x 12 sheet to the size I needed. It broke my heart to cut it. The picture in the mini catalogue doesn't do this paper justice. It is by fair the nicest paper I've worked with and the option to make it any color, saa-weeet.
So for Try It Thursday the technique is stamping on vellum. For this card I stamped my flowers on one side with Stazon black ink and flipped it over and colored with my Stampin' markers on the back side. It gives a beautiful effect and I think it is called Stained Glass Technique but correct me if I'm wrong. I then stamped my En Francais background on Whisper White with Sahara Sand ink and sponged the edges with Sahara Sand. I attached the vellum over top with a spray adhesive. The butterfly was stamped on vellum, colored on back and cut out. The Presto DSP was colored using a brayer and Sahara Sand ink. (BTW, this is a 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" card)

I can never think of anything to get my nephew for his birthday. He lives on the other side of the country and if I buy something big (in size) then it costs a fortune to mail. So I usually send a gift card and he can go and buy what he wants. So I've been trying to think of a neat way to package a gift card. Yesterday I was going through some boxes in my craft room and I found a project from one of my team meetings. It was a notepad that was done up like a matchbook. When I saw it I thought " Well, that would make an awesome card / gift card holder."

Here is the inside.

I only ordered the new builder wheels last week. When I did my demo pre-order at the beginning of the month I hummed and hawed and didn't see myself using 3 wheels together very much so I didn't order them. I never in though of how often I could use the smaller wheels by themselves on my projects, like I did on this card. But now that I have the builder wheel set, I'll play with it and I'm sure I'll like the builder aspect.

I'll have to put in a different gift card cause my nephew is 10 and I think he'd like a Toys R Us or iTunes one better (Hee hee, this was the only one I could find when I was taking the picture. Well it was either that or my driver's license lol).

Don't look too closely at this card. At the last minute I decided to flip it and put the ribbon on the hotdog way. Of course that was after I stamped all my images and taped on my ribbon. Something just wasn't clicking when it was vertical. But I like it this way. I think I will make it again with all the stamped images going the right way.

The little silver dots on the embossed white layer was done by dipping my stylus into my platinum shimmer paint and then dabbing it on the cardstock. That gives you a nice little dot. Of coarse the more paint you put on your stylus, the bigger your dot will be.

I seem to be on clean and simple kick with my cards lately. I always tend to make pretty complicated cards with lots of layering and inking. So I think this is nice for a change. Plus, I have lots and lots of DSP scraps and what do you do with all those little pieces, other than just look in the box and admire them. That's where these cute little punches come in handy. Anyway, I hope the rooster in my little boy doesn't wake up too early. I can use a little extra R & R but who couldn't. lol

The card I posted today looks nothing like what I had intended it to look like. The oval shape was made with Oval Scallop Frame die. I had orginally planned to use the scalloped part of the die with DSP but no matter what I did I couldn't get it to look right. My taffeta ribbon was on my desk and I was like "Hmmm...What would it look like if...." and that's how I lost the frame and gained the ruffle. To make the ruffle all I did was apply sticky strip to the back of the oval, all the way around, and then just kept folding and sticking the ribbon. I then stuck it to the card with 2 layers dimensionals (2 stuck together) so that the ribbon didn't get too squished. I did the sparkle around the circle with the "bliss" stamp on it by running my 2-way glue pen around the edge then dipping it into my Dazzling Diamonds. And LOOK more HodgePodge. I think I am on the path to recovery. LMBO

Today is going to be a rough day. I have to take my 21 month old little boy for a Barium Swallow. He has had Acid Reflux since he was born and we have to do the XRay series to see if everything is OK. It is really nerve racking. I know there's going to be a lot of crying because he doesn't like it when you hold him still and he is a really shy little boy.

This card is one I made for my God-Son. He is turning 14 and I find this is the hardest age to make a card for. Especially a boy. You can't use ribbons or flowers and most of the patterned papers are girly. So Stampin' Up! if you are reading this (yay right. Although I would be floored if Shelli Gardner sat down and said "Gee, maybe I will check out Michelle Singer's Blog today!") we would like more masculine DSP please!!! Maybe an email would work better. Anyhoo!

For Try It Thursday, I thought we could try collage stamping. That's where you stamp lots of different layers of images ranging from light to dark. I haven't read any official info on this technique but I can tell you how I do it. I usually start with my lightest color and I stamp the most with this ink. I then layer from lightest to darkest with my main focus image being the darkest. For example, in the card above, I stamped the blob image from the Extreme Elements set in Sahara Sand. I stamped the dots in Going Gray. I stamped the stars in Basic Gray and the Guitar dude and Happy Birthday in Night of Navy (in that order). This technique looks really awesome with floral images, too! Try it with Inspired by Nature or Pocket Silhouettes.

OK, so I was getting ready to go to bed (I schedule my blog posts the night before) and realized that I absolutely forgot about posting on my blog today. I didn't even have a card made. A normal person would just go to bed and work at it tomorrow. Not me though. I'm the foolish one that races to my craft room as my husband shakes his head at me.
What does a 5 minute card look like? Ta-Da!!! Here you have it. I just rolled my wheel in Close to Cocoa ink, use a tissue to rub the ink off the word Love and Heart image and colored it with my Not Quite Navy marker. I hope it isn't to disappointing. I love joining card swaps. The cards I get back are always so beautiful and I always get tons of great ideas to try out myself. But.... I always get swappers block when it comes time to design my swap card. It's Fabulous Friday. I think the Late Night Stampers challenge this week is to make a Mother's Day Card. So I guess this would make a good entry. If it's not Mother's Day than oopie, my bad.
I started this card just wanting to use Blush Blossom and Basic Black together and this is what the end result ended up being.
Some deets: I made the Basic Black background by stamping the Bella Toile BG stamp in Versamark and embossing with clear embossing powder and then spritzing with the new Vanilla Shimmer Smooth Spritz ( from the summer mini available May 1). When it dried, which was less than a minute (this stuff dries really fast), I used a tissue to wipe the spritz off of the embossed area. The Blush Blossom satin ribbon is the White satin ribbon that I colored with my Blush Blossom marker. To put the Jumbo grommet on the ribbon I just used my bone folder to bend down tabs and used Tombow adhesive to glue it on. I also used the Tombow to glue on the halfback pearls. Lastly, I sponged the Whisper White pieces with Basic Black ink.

Look, more HodgePodge. Two pieces at that. I can hear my inner voice screaming "Michelle, what are you doing?" From the comments I got yesterday it looks like I'm on the path to recovery. Admitting I have a hoarding problem is the first step. LOL

You might ask why I made two of the same card. Well, the reason is because this vintagy, ripped, distressed, crumpled, dirty look is a little bit out of my comfort zone. I made the card on the right first, and thought OMG this is too much. So I made the card on the left which is more in my usual comfort zone. It was a good learning experience for me because I think I like the card on the right better which is way more distressed. What do you think?

So for Try It Thursday, why don't you distress something. Crumpled some paper, tear some edges, run your scissors along some edges, get out your sanding blocks and stampin' sponges and get your hands all dirty.

Ok. So I opened up my HodgePodge Hardware case to make this card and I swear it squeaked. I really need to use these embellies more often. I bought the Styled Vanilla kit when it first came out and I only had one piece gone out of it and that was because a friend of mine was in a swap and needed one ribbon slide, so I gave it to her. I think I need a 12 step program to get over my fear of Hodgepodge usage. Seriously, HodgePodge Hoarders Anonymous here I come. When I was making this card, I had to keep reminding myself that I can take the HodgePodge off if I'm not happy with the card. But in the end I like how it turned out.

The wheel I used on this card was to create a background. It is the Texture Wheel and I think it gives a nice vintagy look. I even wheeled on the patterned paper. The image was stamped in Very Vanilla cardstock and colored using a blender pen and ink from the lid of my ink pad after I squished it. All the paper edges were sponged with Soft Suede Ink.

I made this card in the company of a eight legged creature from hell. I have fluorescent lighting in my craft room and the little bugger keep running around on the plastic that covers the light. And of coarse, it had to be right above my work space. So what do I do? Move to far end of my desk and work in a little 1 foot square area looking up about every 1.5 seconds to see where the spider was and what it was doing. Cause you never know when it could find a seam to crawl through and fall from the ceiling. Ahhh... the inner workings of the arachnophobic mind.

The flower image was stamped off twice before I stamped it on Whisper White to lighten up the color.

It's Fabulous Friday and what is so fabulous about this card you might ask. Well, it would be the amount of brads I used. 19 brads on one card is a new record for me. I'm usually pretty stingy with the hardware. Don't even get me going on the Hodgepodge Hardware. The only bad thing was separating all the prongs on the back of the brads. Man, my fingers hurt.

For Try It Thursday, I thought it might be fun to try masking. On this card, I took a piece of printer paper and cut it to 3 3/8" x 4 5/8", the same size of my Whisper White Cardstock. I then used my paper trimmer and cut a 2 3/8" x 3 5/8" rectangle out of the center (this makes a 1/2" border all the way around). This was my mask. I then used Ditto temporary adhesive to hold the mask down. I sponged Orchid Opulence ink onto the Whisper White layer and stamped my leaf image (but I stamped off once because the image was too strong). I them removed the mask and stamped my flower image in Rich Razzleberry ink.
At least, with this technique I didn't have the same problems as dealing with my possessed sewing machine :b So give this technique a try. You can get some really awesome effects.

This card is almost an exact copy of a card I found on Splitcoast by Mercy Kerin. I fell in love with it and just had to recreate it. Although, there was way more cutting out then I like to do. What can I say, I'm a left handed girl in a right handed world and never did learn how to use a pair of scissors properly. So please don't look too closely :)

When I started this card, I had in mind to make a fun kids' kind of card but once I was done I felt like it had a more sophisticated look to it. What do you think? So today I picked my Stampin' Pastels. I think they look amazing on vellum like this.

I decided to make Friday, Fabulous Friday courtesy of Tyra Banks. I know I'm a geek but I love Tyra. She reminds me of my good friend Maxine, they have the same quirky personally. Maxine and I were roomies for our first 2 years of university, before I moved to a different province. I have a lot of great memories from those years. For instance, we found that after about 3 hours of hardcore studying for finals that we were getting dummyheaded. So, our solution to this was called "Happy Hour" where we would just do and say silly things for a whole hour, like playing Crazy 8's with happy face post-it notes stuck to our foreheads. We would put a sign on our door that said "HAPPY HOUR" and other people in the dorm would actually see the sign and come to visit. Happy Hour was a real hit. One day, there was a very light knock on the door during happy hour. When we opened the door Maxine's Mom was outside with a really weird look on her face. She told us that she saw the sign and was afraid to knock 'cause she thought we were in our room getting drunk. Of coarse this caused a 10 minute giggle fit from us.

Anyway, back to the card. I think on Fabulous Friday I'll post cards with a little extra somethin' somethin'. This is a 5 1/4 x 5 1/4 square card and every layer is sponged with Basic Gray ink, except for the butterflies. I think I got the sketch from the Friday or Saturday Sketch challenge blog. I'll have to double check when I'm not so sleepy.

Okay, I am either seriously sewing machine challenged or my sewing machine is possessed. My mother-in-law gave me her old sewing machine a few years back. When she first gave it to me she set it up and it worked fine. She left and went home and the next time I used it, I hadn't changed anything but it wouldn't work right. The tension was off, the thread kept breaking and the machine would just jam up on me. When my MIL came to visit again, she just went zip, zip, zip, rethreaded the machine and it worked fine. She then unthreaded and got me to do it and low and behold it worked fine for me.......then she left......the sewing machine stopped working again. This has been going on for 4 years now. I have 2 theories. The first is that I am a total moron and I can't thread a sewing machine. But the second is much more interesting. I think the spirit of Christine (that possessed car from the Stephen King Novel/Movie) is in my sewing machine. It originally came from my old car. See, my old car was a hand me down 1990 Mustang from my sister, whose name IS Christine. She had her name painted on the driver side door, thus naming the car. From the time I had that car I was in 4 accidents, none of them my fault, 2 of which the other vehicle was written off, and my Mustang never had a mark on it. I, on the other hand, ended up hurt in those accidents. It was like the car was self restoring. It was about 4 years ago I sold the car and the sewing machine shows up. It is like the silly thing will only work for it's original owner and it tried to take my eye out with a broken needle....LOL
Anyway long story short, it took me all after and about 6 pieces of cardstock (not counting all the practice tries on printer paper) to sew a straight line this card.

After this rant my Try It Thursday is sewing on cards. For those of you who don't have sewing machine issue you can zip your paper right through your sewing machine. But if you are like me...next time I will be using my mat pack and piercer to poke holes and then needle and thread to run a stitch through the holes. But give it a try, the result is beautiful.

This card is a case from page 33 of the Idea book and Catalogue. It was originally a Christmas card but given the time of year I decided to change it to a Thank you card. I didn't have the wood sheets or the DSP used in sample so I changed it to Kraft cardstock and Autumn Traditions DSP.

I have decided to start using my woefully neglected Stampin' Around Wheels at least once a week. The wheels are one of the big reasons I fell in love with Stampin' Up! but I seem to rarely use them anymore. My vow is to leave no wheel unused.

I finally put my Decor Elements All in the Family decals on my Jeep. I have to say I really love them. They are a lot bigger than most of the other brands I have seen on vehicles and they have that Stampin Up! feel to them. For only $4.95 a decal, I think they are a good value as well. Can I say how much I love Love LOVE the new in-colors from Stampin' Up! and that they make in-color markers now. Be still my beating heart. I used the new Animal Stories stamp set for this card. I think it has a lot of potential other than just a solid stamped image. I may have to experiment and try the kissing, rock & roll and thumping techniques with this set. I think this set is even cutesy enough to use as a baby set.

It's been a while since my last post. Life kind of gets in the way. Since it is Father's Day I figured I would post the cards My son and I gave to my husband. Both cards use the Father's Day greeting from the new Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set. I've already used this set on 6 cards and I've only had it a week. I have a feeling it is going to be my "go-to" set for greetings. I love that it is small and can be used with the word window punch.

The first is the card I gave him. I told him it was supposed to be him and Cole fishing when Cole gets older.

Happy Easter everyone. This a another swap card I made for an Occasions Mini swap I was part of last month. I did a lot of sponging with Sahara Sand ink on this card. It is really hard to see in the picture but I used the En Francais background stamp on the basic gray layer in Sahara Sand ink and added some paper piercing along the right hand side. It is very subtle but it adds to the overall look of the card. The circles were cut using my circle scissors tool. I just love this stamp set. I think it can have a lot of uses in both cardmaking and scrapbooking. There is a link to the Occasions mini catalogue in the sidebar. There are so many awesome stamps in it. Check it out for yourself. I am in the process of taking pictures of the regionals swaps I received. I have had a sick little boy this past week so this has been one of the things that got put on the back burner. Hopefully, I will be able to post some of them within the next couple of days. Swap Card Part 2

This is the another card I made as a swap for regionals. The butterfly card was by far the more popular choice, though. I ran out of that one first. I couldn't believe that I made 80 swap cards in total and I could have probably brought 80 more with me. There were some amazing cards swapped that day. I will post some of the cards I received later this week. The thing I liked most about this card was the texture. I ran the kraft layer through the bigshot with a texture plate, then used my sanding block all over the raised side. It made a kind of suede feel to the cardstock.

This is a card I made as a swap for the Stampin' Up! regionals last month. It uses Designer Series Paper and a stamp set from the new Occasions mini. I love how this card turned out. The leaves around the butterfly are stamped in Basic Grey but I stamped off on scratch paper before stamping on my card which gave it a softer look.

Oh, Nervous Me......

At my last Stampin' Up! meeting I did a demonstration on glitter brads. Imagine me, one of the shyest people in the world doing a presentation in front of about 80 people. I was so nervous I didn't think I would be able to do it but once I got started it wasn't that bad. I will definitely share more ideas this way. Anyhoo, this is one of the samples I prepared for my presentation. The glitter brad is holding the ribbon on the card and is a build-a-brad with a pop up glue dot and fine glitter. I think this is a nice multipurpose card. It could be a "Thank You" card, a "Birthday" card or even a "Just Because" card. The possibilities are endless.
My craft room is now furnished and I am in the process of finding a home for everything. You don't realized how much stuff you have until you are forced to go through and organize it all. In our last house I stored all my stuff in a closet so organization wasn't always possible. Now that I have a whole room, I can't see how I fit everything in that closet (lol). A Family Affair

This is the swap card I made for my last Stampin' Up! meeting. I made 25 of them. The funny part is that I got everyone involved in this one. I had my step mom taping ribbon, my dad was applying dimensionals and I even had my husband cutting ribbon and coloring flowers. There was a real assembly line happening.

WooHoo!!! My craft room is finally finished. We still need to assemble all the furniture with the famous Ikea Allen Key and move all my crafting supplies in. I have a feeling I'm going to be really busy organizing over the next couple of days. Wish me luck.....

Happy Anniversary to Me!!!

Thursday was mine and Allan's 2nd and 15th anniversary. 2 years married and 15 years together (we got married on our first date anniversary). We didn't do much. It was hard enough to get through a 1 hour dinner with a tired 7 month old boy. But I am definitely not ready to leave my little man with a babysitter yet.
This is the card I gave Allan for our anniversary. It is my version of a swap I received about a month ago. I think this is a nice card for a just because card or a thank you card. I just love this cute elephant.

My new craft room is almost finished. Hopefully I will be able to start moving things in there by this weekend. I am so excited. I will post pictures when it is finished. Until then, I have to keep posting my older stuff.
